Hi Patrick,

Thanks for the great comment. I've found that a few simple pictures can help to influence project stakeholders.

Recently I've attended seminars where the speaker shows hundreds of written bullet-points in a PowerPoint presentation, but I leave the room remembering nothing!
A few days ago I saw a picture of a rioter throwing a TV-set through a bank's window in London, and that image is still fresh in my mind, and sums up the frustration better than any amount of text.

a brilliant concept but how sustainabke given that the knoweldge worker is taking over: he is more conscious of the environment around him.
In a civil engineering project (eg building a soce stadium or airport, how would pics influence project stakeholders?

PM being self-directed is really insightful. In my environment, which is unstrutured ( because people are just too busy to do some planning), PM can be easily engrossed in that environment, and lose some key project management principles, such as team building activities, planning. If you follow what is being practiced, you won't show your value as a Project Manager, a project management professional. So, we should stick to our disciplines, showing people around that you act differently, yet professionally, thus you can insert influence and get your credibility.

Years ago, New York City removed many of its unique street lamps in favor or a cookie cutter model called a cobra head. After awhile they became tired of the sameness and misssed the old lamps. Now they are installing replicas of old lamps in many neighborhoods especially historic ones. I think you are going to miss the gaslights after awhile. In a few years, leds will be everywhere. You have something unique over there. Think it over before it is too late.

Hi,

This is an excellent article about the disadvantages of communicating by email. I remember that we discussed this in one of the Project Management classes I took. The main problem with communicating by email is that you don't know whether the person is angry, kidding, stressed, etc... An email can send a lot of mixed signals, especially when you're dealing with non-technical issues.

Thanks!
